Tigers Remain In Second Place At The MPSF Swimming & Diving Championships
Long Beach, Calif. – Following three days of action at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Swimming and Diving Championships, Pacific’s men’s swim team finished the day with 314 points to remain in second place. Pacific’s women’s swim team fell to seventh place with 167 points through 27 events.
In the first men’s individual races of the evening freshman Oliver Simkovic finished second in the 400 IM Finals, touching the wall in 3:54.66. Also rounding out the top four for Pacific in the 400 IM was Nathan LeRoy, who recorded a fourth place finish with a pace of 4:00.18.
Elena Waterman had the Tigers lone top eight finish in the 100 Fly finals with a time of 55.93 to come in seventh. Junior Keven Byers narrowly missed the top-six cut in the 100 Fly finals when he placed seventh with a time of 49.94.
In the 200 Free finals, Pacific’s best finish on the day for both the men’s and women’s swim teams came from freshman Mason Kinnard. Kinnard placed fifth in the event when he touched the wall in 1:41.80. Mallory McGowan had the Tigers only top-15 finish in the 100 Breast, touching the wall in 1:04.46. While on the men’s side Kevin Schirmer placed third in the 100 Breast finals with a time of 56.03. Also placing in the 100 Breast finals was LeRoy who had a time of 57.02 to come in sixth.
Freshman Shelby Bolin picked up a 15th place finish in the 100 Back finals when she touched the wall in 58.48, while Bo Cameron had a pace of 58.47 to take the No. 17 spot. During the 100 Back, Kinnard and senior Danny Platow tied for the fourth place finish when both swimmers clocked a time of 51.73.
During the 200 Medley Relay, Pacific’s “A” relay team comprised of MaryElla Randall, Hayley Shillington, Jayme Swalin and Becca Wyant had a collective time of 1:35.69 to finish in seventh. While on the men’s side the “A” relay team made up of Steven Woods, Schirmer, Balazs Szabo and Taylor Moore picked up a third place finish when the quartet had a pace of 1:22.24.
The Tigers return to Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool for the final day of competition at the MPSF Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday, February 26 at 10:30 am. In the final day of competition Pacific will participate in the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 400 Free Relay and 1650 Free. The preliminary races will begin at 10:30 am while the final heats will begin at approximately 6:25 pm.
