Pacific's Men's Swim Team In Second Place After Second Day Of MPSF Swimming & Diving Championships

Long Beach, Calif. – With the second day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) inaugural swimming and diving championships coming to an end, Pacific’s men’s swim team finished the day in second place with a score of 163 behind Cal State Bakersfield (194). The women’s swim team ended the day with 108 points to take the sixth spot after two days of action.
In the 500 Free final junior Jayme Swalin had Pacific’s top finish for the women when she touched the wall in 4:58.33 to finish in seventh place. On the men’s side, the Tigers had a pair of top four finishes from Zachary Zlotoff and Mason Kinnard. Zlotoff had a pace of 4:33.46 to finish in second while Kinnard came in fourth with a time of 4:35.74.
The men’s team also had two swimmers finish in the 200 IM Finals top five, when freshman Oliver Simkovic and Roger Ward came in second (1:50.32) and fifth (1:51.91) respectively. Sophomore RJ Barton narrowly missed the top five cut with a pace of 1:53.28 for the sixth place finish behind Barton.
Freshman MaryElla Randall picked up a fourth place finish in the 50 Free Finals (22.99) which met the NCAA B-Cut time of 23.02. During the men’s 50 Free Finals sophomore Kevin Schirmer and senior Steven Woods had back-to-back finishes for the fifth and sixth spots with times of 20.67 and 20.83 respectively. In the 400 Medley Relay, Pacific’s “A” relay team consisting of Kevin Byers, Nathan LeRoy, Schirmer and Taylor Moore collectively touched the wall in 3:23.04 for the third place finish behind Cal State Bakersfield and Seattle University.
The Tigers return to the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool on Friday, February 25 at 10:30 am for the preliminary heats of the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 200 Free Relay. The finals heats of the races will begin at 6 pm.
