Swimming Returns To Action Saturday At Stanford
Stockton, Calif. – After its winter hiatus, the Pacific men's swim team returns to competition Saturday, Jan. 7, in a road dual meet at No. 3 Stanford. The meet is set to begin at noon, and results for the meet can be viewed live here.
The Tigers last competed at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19. The prestigious meet featured some of the top squads in the nation and saw Pacific hold its own behind numerous impressive performances. Sophomore Oliver Simkovic recorded three top-20 finishes, highlighted by his sixth-place finish in the 200 Back behind a time of 1:47.32. He also took 10th in the 400 IM with a time of 3:58.11 and 17th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.45. Freshmen Brandon Chandler and Cooper Rogers had Pacific's other two top-10 finishes. Chandler took seventh in the 1650 Free with a mark of 15:46.05 while Rogers came in 10th in the 100 Back with a time of 50.04.
Freshman Casey Fleming's time of 51.17 in the 100 Back was good for 13th while senior Roger Ward came in 14th in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:06.33. Junior Zachary Zlotoff came in 16th in the 1650 Free behind a time of 16:07.57 while freshman Cameron Franke took 18th in the 100 Breast with a time of 57.60. Senior Nathan LeRoy had a pair of top-20 finishes, taking 19th in the 100 Breast (57.63) and 20th in the 200 Breast (2:05.97). Freshman Brandon Presswood's time of 1:54.35 in the 200 Back was good for 20th.
Pacific has multiple swimmers ranked in the top eight in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Simkovic and Chandler own the best rankings of the group, ranking second in the 200 Back (1:47.32) and 1000 Free (9:33.63), respectively. Simkovic also ranks fourth in the 400 IM (3:58.11) and sixth in the 200 IM (1:51.45) while Chandler ranks fifth in the 1650 Free (15:46.05). Rogers' time of 50.04 in the 100 Back is good for sixth. The Tigers' 200 Free Relay team ranks fourth with a time of 1:22.57 while their 400 Free Relay (3:02.91) and 800 Free Relay (6:56.35) squads rank sixth, respectively. The 400 Medley Relay team's time of 3:25.24 is good for seventh while the 200 Medley Relay team ranks eighth with a time of 1:33.12.
Four swimmers can find their times in the top 200 nationally. Simkovic's mark of 1:47.32 in the 200 Back ranks 61st while Chandler ranks 83rd in the 1650 Free (15:46.05) and 87th in the 1000 Free (9:33.63). Simkovic also ranks 108th in the 400 IM (3:58.11) and 139th in the 200 IM (1:51.45). Rogers' time of 50.04 in the 100 Back is good for 124th while Zlotoff ranks 165th in the 1000 Free (9:42.56) and 176th in the 1650 Free (16:07.57).
