Pacific Student-Athletes Participates In Fourth-Annual Read To Win

Stockton, Calif. - The University of the Pacific and Colonial Heights Elementary School are teaming up to support Read to Win, a children's literacy program for students at Colonial Heights Elementary School. By partnering with Pacific student-athletes, Colonial Heights Elementary hopes to add excitement to reading and help children develop a lasting love for literature.

"This is the fourth year of our Read to Win Program," Associate Director of Athletics for Student Services & Compliance/ Senior Woman Administrator Holly Trexler said. "Pacific Athletics is taking an active role in encouraging literacy in Stockton. Ourstudent-athletes serve as role models and show how important reading is, and how fun reading can be."

Men's and women's swimming and soccer student-athletes and staff members went to Colonial Heights Elementary on November 1, 2011, to read to classes in an effort to discuss the benefits of reading and how books play a major role in life. Kids get a chance to hone their reading skills while hanging out with Pacific student-athletes. Student-athletes and staff of men's basketball will be heading to Colonial Heights Elementary in the near future.

By giving back to the community and taking an active role in supporting literacy, Pacific student-athletes have the chance to help society and serve as positive role models for children.
