The Tigers' women's 200 Medley Relay team, made up of juniors Becca Wyant, Mallory McGowan, and Allie Vetterlein, and freshman MaryElla Randall, took second with a time of 1:46.09.
The women's 400 Free Relay saw Pacific take third at 3:35.03. McGowan, Randall, freshman Dekel Shahaf, and senior Jayme Swalin comprised the group.
Freshman Cooper Rogers, senior Nate LeRoy, junior Kevin Schirmer, and sophomore Taylor Moore paced Pacific's men's 200 Medley Relay squad to a second-place finish as well, coming in at 1:36.15.
The Tigers' men's 400 Free Relay team clocked in with a time of 3:10.52 behind stellar splits from Moore, sophomore Hans Peters, Rogers, and Schirmer.
The first day included plenty of highlights for the Orange and Black as McGowan won the 100 Breast (1:05.29) while freshman Brandon Chandler finished first in the 1650 Free (16:01.48) in his collegiate debut.
The Tigers had a number of swimmers with runner-up finishes. Sophomore Oliver Simkovic, the reigning MPSF champion in the 200 Back, took second in the 400 IM (4:07.52). Senior Nate LeRoy clocked in at 59.69 in the 100 Breast while sophomore Zach Zlotoff touched the wall at 16:24.60 in the 1650 Free.
Pacific fared well in the sprints, also, as sophomore MaryElla Randall and freshman Balazs Erdelyi both touched second in the 50 Free with times of 23.88 and 21.51, respectively.
Sophomore Hayley Shillington claimed third in the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.26 while Rogers also took third in the same event with a time of 1:43.76. Freshman Jeff Peters clocked in at 16:48.27 in the 1650 Free, good for fourth.
A number of fifth-place finishes bolstered the Tigers' point totals for both teams. Swalin finished fifth in the 200 Free (1:55.64), Hans Peters claimed fifth in the same event (1:44.25), and senior Roger Ward took fifth in the 400 IM (4:12.22). Also placing fifth were junior Jonathan Alves in the 100 Breast (1:00.43) and junior Lydia Schramm in the 1650 Free (18:14.95).
In a deep women's field, freshman Kelsey Crowder took sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.64. Classmate Kelsey Boreyko finished seventh in the same event with a time of 4:40.45. Touching the wall at 1:08.88 in the 100 Breast was senior Lia Santini, also good for seventh.
Schirmer, Moore, and Hans Peters impressed in the 50 Free, finishing seventh (21.89), ninth (21.93), and 10th (21.95) respectively.
The meet will wrap up tomorrow, October 15, when things get underway at 11 a.m. The Stanford men's swim team will join the meet tomorrow.
Pacific Swimming Impresses On Day One Of Pacific Invite
Stockton, Calif. – After the conclusion of Day One of the Pacific Invitational at Chris Kjeldsen Pool, Pacific's men's swimming team currently sits in second place with 471.5 points while the women's squad sits in third place with 303 points.
Brigham Young University leads both teams with 522.5 points on the men's side and 459 points on the women's side. The University of San Diego's women's team currently has 368 points, good for second.
