In his second season at Pacific, Platow specialized in the butterfly and distance freestyle events for the Tigers. A pair of fourth-place finishes, one each in the 200 Fly and 1000 Free, highlighted his sophomore campaign. He added a seventh-place showing in the 500 Free versus Fresno Pacific and UC Santa Cruz. At the 2012 MPSF Championships, he placed 22nd in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:55.35. His preliminary time of 1:54.11 ranked third on the team.
Platow was a Second Team All-MPSF selection in the 1650 Free and finished his freshman season placing fourth in the 1650 Free (16:21.44) and 11th in the 200 Back (1:55.92) at the 2011 MPSF Championships. Platow had his best finish against UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 29, placing third in the 500 Free with a time of 4:50.66. On the year, he earned two fourth-place finishes in the 1000 Free and one fourth place finish in both the 500 Free and 1650 Free.
Platow graduated from Fairfield Preparatory High School in Fairfield, Conn., where he earned four letters in swimming. He holds the school records in the 500 Free, the 200 Free Relay, and the 400 Free Relay. As a freshman, Platow helped his school win the Connecticut state championships. He earned All-State, All-Southern Connecticut Conference, and All-America honors as a junior and senior.
Platow was born in Bronx, N.Y., and is the son of Bill and Maura Marden. He has two older brothers, Danny and Dave, both of whom swam for Pacific. Platow enjoys watching sports in his spare time, and is pursuing a degree in business.
