2011-12 (Sophomore):
Returning for his sophomore season, Carnes continued to bolster the Tigers’ freestyle relays while specializing in the distance freestyle events. He paced his 200 Free and 400 Free relay teams to a pair of top-five finishes versus conference foes Seattle and CSU Bakersfield. He added a third fifth-place finish against UC Santa Barbara, also in the 200 Free. Individually, Carnes set his season-best time in the 50 Free at the 2012 MPSF Championships, clocking in at 21.24. The mark was good for seventh on the team.
2010-11 (Freshman):
In his first year at Pacific, Carnes provided depth for the Tigers as a freestyle relay specialist. He led his relay group to a fifth-place finish in the 200 Free against Fresno Pacific and UC Santa Cruz and added a pair of top-10 finishes in two different relay events against Loyola Marymount, CSU Bakersfield and Seattle.
High School:
Carnes graduated from Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta, Calif., where he earned four letters in swimming. He was given his team’s MVP Award after the 2006-07 and 2009-10 seasons while earning all-league and All-America honors his final two seasons. Additionally, Carnes was named his team’s captain as a senior.
Personal:
Carnes was born in Glendale, Calif., and is the son of Mary and Chris Carnes. He has an older brother Nick. A civil engineering major, Carnes enjoys snowboarding in his free time.
