Goran Tomasevic Nominated For Peter J. Cutino Award

San Francisco, Calif. – Sophomore Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) of Pacific’s men’s water polo team has been nominated for the Peter J. Cutino award on Wednesday, December 8. Tomasevic becomes the first Tiger in the men’s program history to be nominated for the award.

The Peter J. Cutino Award is considered the Heisman Trophy of American collegiate water polo and is named after former college water polo player and UC Berkeley coach Peter J. Cutino, Each year nominees for the are selected by the Division I water polo coaches, and the award is given annually to the top male and female player in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Past winners of the Cutino award include Tony Azevedo who was a silver medalist during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and is currently captain of the US National Men's Water Polo Team.

“I’m honored to be nominated for this prestigious award. It would not be possible without my great teammates and coaching staff,” stated Tomasevic on the nomination. “I want to dedicate this award nomination to my sister Mia.”

Tomasevic finished his sophomore season recording seven assists, 18 steals and 87 earned ejections. Additionally he scored 53 goals on 111 attempts in 28 games for a 1.90 goals per game average and .477 shooting percentage.

Also nominated this year are Ivan Rackov of California and Joel Dennerley of USC. The winners will be announced at the 11th annual Peter J. Cutino Awards Night Dinner held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at The Olympic Club’s City Clubhouse, located at 524 Post Street in San Francisco.

“I am very proud of Goran and his accomplishments this year. He has been a model student athlete and I could not think of a more deserving individual," said head coach James Graham "In addition to being a great individual honor, this is something you never earn alone. This is a testament to the team’s hard work and success as well. The entire team is proud of Goran and we are happy to have him represent us."
