Jasper Visser Honored By College of the Pacific at the Annual College Awards Assembly
Stockton, Calif. - Junior Jasper Visser of Pacific's men's water polo team has a few more awards to add to his growing list of academic achievements. Visser was informed by the chemistry department on Saturday, April 30, that he was named the 2011 Outstanding Graduating Senior in Biochemistry.
Jasper also won the 2011 Fred and Marguerite Early Undergraduate Research Award in Chemistry for research he conducted to study the variable diastereoselectivity in acylation of 2-substituted cyclohexanols. Visser later reported the results of the study at the 241st National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Anaheim, Calif., the 22nd Annual Northern California Undergraduate Research Symposium in Sacramento, Calif., and at the 11th Annual Pacific Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference.
From 1,100 nominations nationwide, Jasper was chosen by NCAA to represent the University of the Pacific as a student-athlete at the 2011 NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis this June. Originally from Soest, Utrecht, Netherlands, Jasper transferred from to Pacific from West Valley JC in the fall of 2009. This season he also named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic team, earning Superior honors. Visser will graduate cum laude in the Fall with a degree in biochemistry.
