Goran Tomasevic, Balazs Erdelyi and Alex Malkis Earn All-American Honors

Stockton, Calif. – Sophomore Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia), and freshmen Balazs Erdelyi (Eger, Hungary) and Alex Malkis (Yoqneam, Israel) were named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American teams on Saturday, January 29, 2011.
Tomasevic was a first-team selection while Erdelyi and Malkis were honorable mention selections. This is the second time Tomasevic’s collegiate career that he’s earned an All-American distinction. It is the first for Erdelyi and Malkis.
Goran Tomasevic
The All-American First-Team selection began his sophomore campaign on a high note, recording a season high five goals in Pacific’s season opener against Loyola Marymount University at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif. He went on to record 10 goals, one assist, one steal and eight exclusions drawn in Pacific's first four games at the tournament and was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Player of the Week on September 7 for his efforts. Tomasevic ended the 2010 season with at the Pacific’s leading scorer 53 goals in 28 games, which included two or more goals in 15 contests. He added to his list of athletic achievements when he was selected to the All-MPSF First-Team MPSF All Academic at the end of the season. Last year Tomasevic was named the MPSF Newcomer of the Year in addition to earning All-MPSF honorable mention honors.
Balazs Erdelyi
As an All-American Honorable Mention selection, Erdelyi tallied 52 goals, 48 steals, 60 assists, 26 earned ejections and 19 field blocks in 28 games during his first season at Pacific. He ended his freshman campaign with a second-team all conference selection and was third Tiger in program history to be named the MPSF Newcomer of the Year award. Erdelyi’s Newcomer of the Year selection marked the first time in program history Pacific had players in the award in consecutive seasons since joining the MPSF. Tomasevic and Duje Kaurloto earned the distinction in 2009 and 2006 respectively.
Alex Malkis
Malkis, an All-American Honorable Mention selection, ended his season in the cage for the Tigers with 28 saves at the 2010 MPSF tournament and brought his season saves total to 221 in 26 appearances for a 8.50 saves per game average. Thru November 29, Malkis had led all MPSF goalkeepers with the highest saves per game average and total number of saves during the season. In his first season in the cage for Pacific, Alex recorded an MPSF season high 18 saves against UC Irvine on October 31. He was voted the MPSF Player of the Week on November 8 when he tallied a total of 26 saves, three steals and one assist over a three day span. Malkis had 11 saves against UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 7) and five saves against Santa Clara (Nov. 5), while opponents went a combined 2-for-18 on man up opportunities against Malkis in the two games. For his strong play in the cage throughout the season, Alex was named to the All-MPSF Honorable Mention team.
