#5 Tigers Wrap Regular Season at #11 SJSU; Home vs #9 UC Davis

STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 5 Pacific men's water polo team wraps Golden Coast Conference play at No. 11 San Jose State Friday and returns home for Senior Night against No. 9 UC Davis Saturday in the final weekend of the regular season.

Pacific, which remained No. 5 in the CWPA Top 20 poll, faces the Spartans at 7 p.m. in San Jose before the Aggies visit in a non-conference matchup on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

The Tigers will go for the outright regular season title in the GCC against the Spartans, looking for a 5-0 conference record. The Tigers enter at 15-5 overall, 4-0 in GCC play and have secured at least a share of the title, the top seed in the GCC Tournament and a bye to the GCC semifinals.

San Jose State is 13-14 on the year, and 1-3 in the GCC. The Tigers have won both meetings with the Spartans since SJSU reinstated their program for the 2015 season. GCC leading goalscorer Jacob Mercep leads the Spartans with 80 goals on the year.

Luke Pavillard is third in the GCC with 56 goals, while Engin Ege Colak is fifth with 56.  The Tigers also boast three of the conference's top five assists leaders, with Ben Stevenson third with 31, Pavillard fourth with 26, and Devon Thumwood fifth with 25.

Pavillard also ranks third in steals with 46, while Pacific goalie John Hedges leads the conference with 76. Hedges also ranks third in saves.

Pacific leads the GCC in scoring with 303 goals. The Tigers are fourth in goals against with 169 allowed, but the top four are separated by just four goals from 165 to 169.  In GCC play, the Tigers offense leads with 51 goals goals scored, while allowing a league-low 28 goals.

The Aggies enter at 19-5 overall. UC Davis finished 7-0 in the WWPA, earning the regular season conference title, and ride a 10-game win streak into Saturday's non-conference matchup. 

The Tigers have won the last nine in a row against the Aggies dating back to 2009.

Prior to Saturday's contest, the Tigers will honor seniors Kale Ai, Derek Clappis, Tim Reeves, Ben Stevenson and Devon Thumwood.

Saturday's game will feature a pregame tailgate outside Chris Kjeldsen Pool, with the Tigers giving away mini water polo balls.
