STOCKTON, Calif. - A trio of Pacific men's water polo alums will take part in the FINA 2017 World Championships, which open today in Budapest. Alex Obert will represent Team USA, while Balazs Erdelyi is a member of Hungary, the tournament's host. Devon Thumwood has been named to Team Canada's roster.

Obert is a three-time All-American and Pacific's last finalist for the Peter J. Cutino award, given to the top collegiate water polo player in the nation, as a nominee after the 2015 season.

Erdelyi finished his Pacific career in 2013, and is the most decorated Tiger of all-time as he won the 2012 and 2013 Peter J. Cutino Award, the 2013 ACWPC National Player of the Year award, and was a four-time All-American.

Erdelyi is Pacific's second all-time leading scorer with 287 goals in four years, while Obert is ninth on the all-time scoring list with 157 goals.

Thumwood will enter his senior season in the fall, and ranks 15th on the Tigers' all-time scoring list with 109 goals. A two-time All-American, the native of Calgary, Alberta will suit up for the Canadians in the 2017 edition of the FINA World Championships.

On the women's side, Pacific's Kyra Christmas (Canada) and Tiger alum Brydie Pie (New Zealand) will be in action.
