Trio Of Tigers Earn All-America Honors
Stockton, Calif. - Junior Goran Tomasevic, sophomore Balazs Erdelyi, and senior Tom Koning were named to the 2011 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America team, announced Sunday, Feb. 20.
"I cannot be more proud of Goran, Balazs, and Tom for receiving this amazing honor," head coach James Graham said. "I am also very proud of our entire team. It is my firm belief that the strength of a team is its players and the strength of the players are the team. This is just another example of team success after an incredible 2011 season."
Tomasevic earned First Team All-America recognition for the second consecutive season after being a third-team pick as a freshman. Arguably the most dominant two-meter player in the country, he finished the year with 46 goals, good for third-most on the team, while averaging 1.77 goals per match. Tomasevic had 15 multi-goal outings on the year, including six hat tricks and a pair of four-score performasnces. He also paced the Tigers with 76 drawn ejections.
Erdelyi was a Second Team All-America selection, earning the recognition for the first time in his career. He tallied 56 scores on the season, good for second on the team, and had a team-best 18 multi-goal games, including nine hat tricks. Erdelyi also scored in 24 of the 25 matches in which he played, and ended the year with a scoring streak of 24 straight matches. He also led the team with 42 steals, 43 assists, and 19 field blocks.
Koning capped off a stellar four-year career with his first All-America honor, earning Third Team honors. Pacific's leading scorer with 58 goals, he notched 16 multi-goal matches, including four hat tricks, three four-goal outings, and two five-goal performances. He now sits sixth all-time in Pacific history with 158 career goals. Koning ended the year with 12-match scoring streak, and he added 26 steals and 14 assists.
