Stockton, Calif. - University of the Pacific Men's Tennis Head Coach Ryan Redondo has announced the signing of Marlon Brand. He will join the Tigers at the semester break, and will play for the Tigers in the second half of the 2013-14 season.
"Marlon is going to be a huge addition to this close knit team we have now," said Redondo. "His doubles results have been excellent and his singles is going to get even better here. He is a tall lefty that will fit in very will with the Tiger philosophy of tennis. I am really excited for Marlon to join us in January."
He will join the Tigers as a sophomore after transferring from Middle Tennessee State. He was 7-8 as a singles player in 2012-13 for the Blue Raiders, but 2-0 in dual matches. He was 14-16 as a doubles player, including eight wins in dual matches teaming with Yannick Born. Brand helped the Blue Raiders to a top 50 national ranking.
Brand is from the Netherlands, where he excelled at all levels of tennis. He has been ranked in the top 10 in his age range since he was 12. Training at the Dutch Federation for eight years, he has represented the Netherlands in an international youth tournament.
"I am really happy to become a Tiger," said Brand. "I have been working hard this summer to become a valuable player in both singles and doubles and I believe the tennis program at Pacific is the perfect place to reach my goals. I also believe the coach can make me a better player. I think University of the Pacific is a very good university to finish my business administration major."
