Davis, Calif. and San Diego, Calif. – The Pacific men's tennis team was in action at both the Aztec Invitational in San Diego and the UC Davis Invitational in Davis on Friday, October 4. Combined in the two tournaments, the Tigers picked up 10 victories on Friday.

Freshman Miguel Diaz got off to a great start with a pair of victories in the first and second round of singles competition at the Aztec Invitational. He defeated Michael Meyers of UC San Diego (6-0, 6-2) and Hendrik Jebens of San Diego State (6-2, 6-0).

"It was really great to see freshman Miguel Diaz play in his first collegiate event," said Head Coach Ryan Redondo. "He came out and played great doubles, but unfortunately the team let up just enough to have LMU squeak by them. Singles was good as well today.  I thought Denis really picked up his level after his first loss, and Miguel came out and really dominated some good players. We have to come out strong tomorrow."

Both Ben Mirkin and Lance Ngo won two matches to open play at the UC Davis Invitational. Mirkin defeated Bryce McKelvie of UC Davis in a hard fought three set match, then Joaquin Marquez of Sacramento State. Ngo picked up straight set victories over James Markiewicz of Saint Mary's and Daniel Holtz of Sonoma State. Ngo will begin action in the semifinals of the ITA California Singles flight, while Mirkin will compete in the semifinals of the ITA Big West Singles flight.

"Despite extremely windy conditions, the team stayed disciplined and on task battling to win 7 out of 11 matches," said Student Assistant Coach Alex Golding. "I am very happy with the work ethic and professionalism of our players and we will look to improve further tomorrow."
