The month of August has been a busy month for the Pacific Men's Tennis team. As the summer season begins to come to a close, many of the Tigers are competing to start the new year on the right foot.
Big West Freshmen of the Year, Sem Verbeek, just won his third tournament at the Kattenlaan Open 2013 in the Netherlands. Along with that, Ben Mirkin closes out the ITA Summer Circuit Championships by winning the consolation draw, defeating the #4 seed from Alabama in the three sets. In the same tournament, Daniel Alameh went all the way to the Rd. of 16 to lose in a third set tiebreaker to Wake Forest's #2 seed. Incoming Freshman Miguel Diaz competed in the $100,000 ATP CoMerica Challenger and lost in a tight match to the #800 player in the world.
And next up, Alex Hamilton, Denis Stolyarov, and Miguel Diaz will end the summer locally at the Modesto Open Championships this Friday.
"I am really happy to see the majority of the guys on this young team stepping up and being accountable for their development," Coach Redondo said. "A lot of players do not compete and play over the breaks and it catches up with them. The summer is a valuable time for them to compete and learn about themselves and learn about where they currently are and need to be."
