Stockton, Calif. - Pacific's Director of Tennis and Men's Tennis Head Coach Ryan Redondo has been named Wilson ITA Northwest Region Coach of the Year.
Redondo drastically improved the Pacific program this year, earning Big West Coach of the Year honors. After finishing 8-15 in 2012, the Tigers bettered their win total by eight, finishing 16-9 overall in 2013. Redondo's Tigers entered the national rankings at No. 66 on March 12 and stayed in the ITA poll for the majority of the season's final two months. He led the Tigers to a 4-2 mark in Big West play, tying for third place, and guided them to the championship match of the Big West Tournament as the No. 3 seed. Redondo also coached Pacific to a victory over No. 60 Santa Clara on March 9.
"It is an honor to receive the 2013 ITA Northwest Region Coach of the Year Award," said Redondo. "There are so many great coaches in the region that being recognized and chosen is very exciting for the Pacific program. These awards are voted on by coaches, so it is really special to me. The Northwest Region includes many great programs and this award as well as the Big West Coach of the Year award is a reflection of my student-athletes more than me. They understand the culture that I envision at Pacific and they have trusted the philosophy that I have offered to them. Accordingly, I have one of the best staffs in the profession. So, I share this award with our strength and conditioning coach Marcus Dorin, Glen Albaugh our sports psychologist, Luis Leon our athletic trainer, our academic support staff, and of course our assistant coaches Adi Kremer and Jamieson Cox. The Tigers are a young team and this is the first of many great years for Pacific Tennis."
