Tigers Short Against Fresno 4-3

Fresno, Calif.-The Tigers got off to a slow start early on in the match against the Spartans having dropped the doubles point, however the Tigers were eager to make a comeback in the singles competitions. As the singles matches got underway, the Tigers quickly found their niche.

At the No. 2 position, standout freshman Sem Verbeek had another show-stopping match in which he defeated Sai Kartik Nakireddi with confidence 6-2, 6-3.  Verbeek now holds an impressive season singles record of 7-2 in singles.
Another Tiger standout, sophomore Denis Stolyarov also holds a singles record of 7-2 for the spring season after now improving his winning streak to seven straight matches. Against the Bulldogs, Stolyarov posted a final score of 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-4 in his battle against Felipe Fritz at the No. 4 spot.
Freshman Daniel Alameh also posted an impressive win against the Bulldogs' Jeremy Quiroz in straight sets.  Alameh's final match score was 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 5 position.
At the conclusion of the match, Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach Ryan Redondo stated, "Fresno State came out to win and squeaked away with the 4-3 clinch.   We came out too slow and gave away opportunities in singles that resulted in a team loss."

The Tigers now prepare to face Sacramento State on March 1st in Sacramento, California.
