Mirkin Advances To Flight Finals In Men's Tennis Invitational

Stockton, Calif. - Denis Stolyarov and Erik Cederwall advanced to the finals of the Black Flight Doubles draw, and Ben Mirkin earned a place in the Black Flight Singles finals Saturday as the Pacific Tigers Invitational continued at Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.

Pacific posted six wins on the day, as Mirkin rallied for a three-set win over USF's Germaine Bahri in the Black Flight semifinals. Mirkin will face Cal's Andrew Scholnick in the final.

"Another beautiful day at Pacific for tennis," Ryan Redondo, Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach said. "In the 'Black' flight we had a lot of success with Ben Mirkin showing a lot of heart and coming back to grind out a three setter.  It was really fun to see him compete like that again.  Tomorrow will be another test with matches that will give us a lot of learning opportunities."

Cederwall and Alex Golding each picked up wins in the consolation side of their brackets, while Stolyarov and Trevor James were both straight-sets winners in round robin play.

Sem Verbeek's run in the Orange Flight was halted in the quarterfinals, as he fell to Stanford's Robert Stinemann, the bracket's fifth seed.

In doubles action, Stolyarov and Cederwall reached the finals by posting an 8-4 win over Cal Poly's duo of Derek Klein and Gannon Daynes. Golding and Verbeek were upended by Stanford's Daniel Ho and Denis Lin in the Orange Flight quarterfinals,8-3.
