Davis, Calif.- At the final day of competition at the UC Davis Invitational freshman Trevor James closed out the tournament with a victory against Alec Wagner of Saint Mary's College in a grueling three set match in the Round Robin Singles Consolation bracket events. James lost the first set 5-7 and the Tiger regrouped and produced a win in the second set going 7-2 in the tiebreaker and 1-0(8) in the third-set tiebreak.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach, Ryan Redondo stated, "We played six matches and won only one of them today. The other three we lost, we lost in a third-set breaker. This shows our tennis (the way we play) is there, and now it's just up to who blinks first and who wants to stay the course and do what it takes to win; which today we didn't quite show as a team."
Coach Redondo continue to remark, "Discipline is essentially doing what you should do whether you feel comfortable with it or not, to the best of your ability. Simply, we need more discipline and more courage. It's the first tournament of the year for most of the team that traveled so I will take it as a positive that we are learning these lessons now. We are becoming stronger for it."
