Davis, Calif.-At the first day of the UC Davis Invitational, the Tigers posted victories in both singles as well as doubles events. In the main draw, sophomore Alex Hamilton and sophomore Denis Stolyarov posted wins in the Flight A main draw. While Hamilton defeated Oliver Hamilton in a brutal three set match after having dropped the second set, Stolyarov was victorious in straight sets. In the Flight B main draw, sophomore Valenti Goncalves defeated Fresno State's Jeremy Quiroz in three sets after having made an intense comeback after losing the first set.
"At the conclusion of the day, Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach Ryan Redondo stated, "The day consisted of many matches against some of the regions best, with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles. Had a few tough 3-set setbacks along side some great comebacks. Ben Mirkin made his debut this year by partnering with Trevor James and clinching a win against Fresno State, 8-5. Valentim Goncalves also went undefeated in singles earning wins over Fresno State and Sac State, putting him into the quarterfinals tomorrow."
