Irvine, Calif. - With the release of the 2012 All-Big West teams, the Pacific men's tennis team found three of its players among the top players in the conference on Tuesday, May 1. The Tigers placed a singles player on each of the three teams with Ivan Castro earning the top honors with a first team selection. Joining Castro on the all-conference teams were Ben Mirkin on the second team and Alex Golding on the honorable mention team. Additionally, Castro and Golding took home first team honors in doubles play for their work at the top of the lineup for the Tigers.
For Castro, the first team selection marked the third time in as many seasons the senior earned all-conference honors. Playing primarily at No. 1 singles for the Tigers throughout the season, Castro posted a 10-12 record overall and a 3-2 mark against Big West opponents.
In Mirkin, the Tigers has a reliable singles player that saw time at all four of the top singles positions while mainly competing at No. 3 and No. 4. Tallying a record of 13-8 on the year, Mirkin was matched Castro's mark in conference play as the freshman went 3-2 against Big West foes.
Earning his first all-conference selection in his third year at Pacific, Golding played between No. 2 and No. 4 singles throughout the year while finding his most success at No. 3 singles. On the year, Golding grabbed five of his six wins at the third position for the Tigers.
When teamed up, Castro and Golding made a strong doubles pair as the duo posted an impressive 8-2 record playing primarily at the No. 1 spot. Winning their last four matches together, Castro and Golding saved the best for last as they grabbed the Tigers' lone victory in doubles action at the Big West Championships as the pair defeated UC Davis' Miller and Verdi-Fortin, 8-4, in Pacific's final match of the season.
