Tiburon, Calif. - The Pacific men's and women's swim teams joined forces last weekend to take part in a friendly, but competitive long distance race and took fourth place in the 2008 RCP Tiburon Mile on Oct. 5, 2008.

In the team category, Pacific's top six swimmers placed fourth overall behind California and Stanford. Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Matt Lundy (Lafayette, Colo.), KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah), Danny Platow (Westport, Conn.), Jason Dupere (Santa Maria, Calif.) and Patrick Walton (Lodi, Calif.) paced the Tigers with a combined time of 2:23.57. The Golden Bears came in second overall with a 2:20.06 mile, while Stanford took third in 2:22.12.

Both Ojstersek and Albison came in first in their divisions, men's 19-29 and women's 19-29, respectively. Ojstersek's 24:46 mile was fast enough to put him in the top 10 of a field of 758 competitors from around the United States and even the world. Beijing Olympians, Mark Warkentin, Klete Keller, Eric Vendt and Kalyn Keller also competed in this year's open water swim.

Coaches Adam Kennedy and Emily Wylam joined in and competed in the mile with their squad. All Pacific swimmers finished the race in under 33 minutes.

The Tiburon Mile is an annual race that began in 1999. The course runs from Ayala Cove on Angel Island to the shore of Tiburon in Marin County.
