Head Coach Adam Kennedy Unveils 2008-09 Roster Additions

Stockton, Calif. - With the new academic year underway, eight new freshmen, transfers and walk-ons will take to the blocks in orange and black this year under first-year Pacific coaches Adam Kennedy and Emily Wylam.

TRANSFERS:

International swimmer Dave Mathews joins the Pacific Tigers after two years with the Auburn Tigers. The redshirt sophomore originally hails from Dublin, Ireland, and during his time with Auburn was part of a team that won the Division I South Eastern Championships.

FRESHMEN:

Kevin Byers comes to Pacific from Puyallup, Wash., where he swam for the King Aquatic Club and recorded top times as a junior national qualifier.

Fresno, Calif., native Joe Orr will first hit the pool for the men's water polo team and upon completion of the season will join the rest of the men under Kennedy's guidance. Lettering in both swimming and water polo at Bullard High School, Orr was named to the All-County Metro Athletic Conference team three of his four years as a varsity swimmer.

Jack Pope, of Lahainaluna High School in Hawaii, won state championships three times in the 200 and 500 Free with the Lunas and will specialize in mid-distance freestyle events here at Pacific.

On the women's side, freshman Lia Santini joins the Tigers after graduating from Bothell High School in Washington, where she swam in the WAVE Aquatics club team.

IM and middle-distance swimmer Jayme Swalin is fresh off a stint with a four-time 4A Team State Champion swim team at Inglemoor High School in Washington, where she lettered all four years and garnered All-American status as a prep swimmer.

Rounding out the freshman class of 2008-09 is Elena Walterman of Framingham, Mass. Walterman and her high school swim team consistently finished top three in the New England Senior Championships.

WALK-ONS:

In his third year at Pacific, Logan Mulvaney joins Kennedy's squad as a butterfly and freestyle swimmer. He earned varsity letters in both swimming and water polo at Clear Creek HS in League City, Texas. Logan earned Swimming-District MVP honors in 2005, a season when he was also the district champ in the 100 and 200 Free races.
