MORAGA, Calif. - The Pacific men's soccer team drew a 0-0 tie with host Saint Mary's on Saturday, giving Pacific their first draw of the season. Curtis Goldsmith made three saves in the contest, and Andres Ochoa lead the way with four shots on the offensive end as the Tigers' themselves riffled off 15 shots on the day.
The result moves Pacific to 11-3-1 overall, 3-1-1 in West Coast Conference action and takes Saint Mary's to 5-6-5 this season, 2-2-2 in WCC play.
The Tiger defense was pressured early as the Gaels stormed out with a quick shot and a pair of corner kicks. Going the other way in the 15th minute the Orange and Black finally pushed back in their offensive zone as Camden Riley headed the ball to Tariq Branche. The sophomore then brought the ball up the left side but his cross attempt was kicked out of play by the Gael defender. Goalie Curtis Goldsmith and the rest of the Pacific backline continued to fend off the Saint Mary's offensive opportunities throughout the rest of the first half.
The defensive stalemate continued in the second half as both backlines remained stout. In the 61st the Tigers lined up for a free kick about six feet outside the box, but Andres Ochoa's strike met the Gael wall of defenders, nulling the threat. The pressure continued as two minutes later Ochoa send in a corner that found Christian Aldama at the far post, but the defender's shot went just wide of the post. Both teams traded opportunities in the remaining 30 minutes of regulation but could not find the back of the net as we headed to overtime.
In the 109th minute Riley received the ball as he came streaking down the field with no defenders around him, but the Gael 'keeper jumped out made a great save to preserve the shutout.
