LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A trio of first half goals and stellar defensive play helped the Pacific men's soccer team top UNLV 3-0 on a stormy Friday evening. Anthony Orendain, Camden Riley and Alfredo Alcala all scored for the Tigers, and goalie Curtis Goldsmith added @@ saves in the victory.
The win propels No. 23 Pacific to 5-0 on the year while the loss brings the Rebels to 1-3 overall.
Anthony Orendain gave the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage in the 25th minute as the sophomore ripped a shot from 15 yards out on an assist from Andres Ochoa for his second goal of the season. The Tigers made it 2-0 just 15 minutes later, this time off the foot of Camden Riley on a shot from the right side which got past the Rebel 'keeper.
The offense kept rolling as just under two minutes later Alfredo Alcala netted one on a free kick from about 27 yards out to extend the Pacific lead before the half. It is the second time this season the Tigers have scored three goals in the first half of play after they accomplished the feat during their home opener against CSU Bakersfield.
Both sides traded chances in the second half as each team took five shots in the final 45. Curtis Goldsmith secured the victory while making three total saves on ten shots faced en route to his third shutout win of the year.
The Tigers return home this Sunday to face Grand Canyon in a rematch of last year's thrilling overtime Pacific victory, Game time is 7 PM and admission is free for all fans.
