Mission Viejo, Calif. -
With the first day of the Big West Championships completed at the Mission Viejo Country Club in Mission Viejo, Calif., the Pacific golf team sits in second place after shooting a 584, +8 on Monday, May 2. The Tigers trail UC Davis heading into the final day of action as the Aggies finished the first 36 holes at even-par with a 576.
After finishing the first 18 holes of the day at just three-over par, the Tigers slipped back of the Aggies in the second trip around the course as Pacific went five-over in the afternoon session. Despite the small drop in production, the Tigers did see two both senior Patrick Kucich and sophomore Alex Edfort improve through their second run through the course as the duo each fired an even-par, 72.
For Kucich, the second time around the course proved to be a much more steady trip on the links as the senior posted 16 pars in his round while dropping in one birdie to balance out a single bogey. On the other side of the course, Edfort put together a much more turbulent round as the sophomore carded a team-high six birdies in his second round while balancing out five bogeys, including a double-bogie on the par-four seventh. The duo finished their day at just one-over par after each posting a 73 in the first round of action. For the tournament both Kucich and Edfort are tied for seventh in the individual standings.
The Tigers will look to score low in the final round of action at the tournament on Tuesday, May 3 when they take the course for the last time in the tournament. The Tigers will send their first golfer out at 8:15 am with Edfort heading out in the final group at 8:51 am. The final round of play at the championships can be followed live at at www.golfstat.com.
