Tigers finish 11th in Colorado

Tiger golf finished in 11th place today at the Paintbrush Invitational in Parker, Colorado. The teams battled the elements as well as the course and their opponents during the closing round which was suspended once due to snow.

The Tigers posted a team score of 313 in the closing round to hold their position at 11th. Colorado State won the tournament at six-over par, eight strokes ahead of second place Oregon. Pacific outshot the tournament's hosts, Denver, by eight strokes. CSU's Oscar Teiffel placed first among all golfers thanks to a 67 in the closing round. He unseated Loyola Marymount's Riley Elmes who led after the second round but shot a 73 in the final round to fall to second. Redshirt sophomore Beau Forest led the way for Pacific and finished tied for 39th.

The day started with the completion of the second round which was cut short by darkness yesterday and then delayed this morning due to frost. Juniors Austin Fox and Casey Scott wrapped up round two this morning to lock the Tigers into a team score of 297, Pacific's best of the tournament.

The third round presented challenges to all players on the course with temperatures in the high 20's and low 30's throughout the day as well as the occasional snowstorm; scores were inflated for all teams today. Forest put together the best round for the Tigers again with a 77. Forest scrambled throughout the day carding four birdies and five bogeys. He also carded an eagle on the par-five 16th hole. It was one of eight eagles in the tournament. He was one under through the back-nine today but finished six over on the front.

Senior Jee Horsangchai was in second among the Tigers; he tied for 47th. Juniors Austin Fox and Casey Scott both tied for 51st. Fox was two-under par on the Colorado Golf Club's par fives this week. Redshirt junior Tyler Burnes was one under par for the week on par fives. He finished tied for 60th.

The Tigers have a little more than two weeks off before hosting the final tournament of 2018, the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at Stockton Country Club October 25-27.
