Bordeaux Wins First Professional Tournament

Sorrento, Fla. - For the first time in his professional career, former Tiger standout TJ Bordeaux (2008-11) took home a tournament championship as the Tacoma, Wash. native won at Red Tail GC over the weekend.  Bordeaux, playing on the National Golf Association Pro Tour - Winter Series, outlasted the field of 144 to win in a playoff on Wednesday, January 18 with a three-day score of -14, 202.  The tour event was held at Red Tail GC in Sorrento, Fla. on a par-72, 7,152 yard course lay out.

For his win, Bordeaux took home a purse of $13,500 to bring his season total to $21,837.  Bordeaux sits third on the money list for the 2011-12 NGA Winter Professional Tour after having finished in the money in eight of his 13 tour events during the season.  The new professional on the tour has built momentum on the tour of the last month and a half as Bordeaux has finished in the money in each of his last five events including picking up a fourth place finish at Southern Dunes GC the week prior to his tournament victory at Red Tail.

Bordeaux got off to a hot start for his run at the tournament title at Red Tail as he fired off an impressive -8, 64 in round one to claim the early tournament lead.  Bordeaux's 64 tied for the tournament low round as he knocked down eight birdies in the opening round while playing bogeyless golf.  Bordeaux would not make his first bogey of the tournament until the third hole on day two, however, he would recover with five birdies in the round to put himself in prime position for the tournament title.  On the final day, Bordeaux carded a -2, 70 for the day and was forced to hold off late charges by Danny Ellis (Heathrow, Fla.) and Rob Oppenheim (Andover, Mass.) to claim the victory.

Bordeaux will be back in action at Diamond Back GC in East Haines City, Fla. on January 24 - 26 as he looks to continue his streak of top-5 finishes on the tour.  For more information on the tour go to www.ngatour.com.
