Tigers Host Cal State Northridge Tonight On Senior Night

Stockton, Calif. - Tonight the Pacific men's basketball team hosts Cal State Northridge on Senior Night for the Tigers' final home game. Tonight's game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip in the Alex G. Spanos Center.

All five Pacific seniors will be honored before the game tonight. Pat Eveland, Terrell Smith, Sam Willard, Nyika Williams and Demetrece Young will all be playing their final home game for the Tigers.

Over 40 Tiger basketball alums will be honored at halftime of the game, as the Tigers will also announce their All-Century Team in conjunction with the Record. Memorable moments from throughout Pacific basketball history will be shown during the game.

LAST WEEK: The Tigers defeated UC Riverside 57-51 on the road on Feb. 24, then rallied from a 20-point deficit but fell 97-86 in double overtime at UC Irvine on Feb. 26. The Tigers dropped an 82-80 decision at home to Cal State Fullerton on March 3.

Cal State Fullerton 82, Pacific 80: The Pacific men's basketball team dropped an 82-80 decision at home to Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, March 3. The Tigers dropped to 16-13 overall, 8-7 in Big West Conference play, while the Titans improved to 10-19 overall and 6-9 in league play. Five different Tigers scored in the opening minutes as the Tigers used a 10-2 run to take a six point lead (10-4) with 14:17 left in the half. Cal State Fullerton responded with a 7-0 run of its own, taking an 11-10 lead over Pacific. After four lead changes a layup by sophomore Allen Huddleston (Merced, Calif.) and a free throw shot by Eveland put Pacific up 20-15 with 6:44 remaining in the half. However, foul trouble caught up with the Tigers early. Senior Sam Willard (Pierre, S.D.) picked up his third foul with 8:22 on the clock, leading to Pacific scoring just eight points the rest of the half. The Titans took advantage with a 17-3 run over the final five minutes to head into the halftime break with a 39-25 lead. The Tigers had their second worst offensive performance of the year in the first half, hitting just nine of 29 shots from the field and going 1-for-10 from the three-point line. Senior Terrell Smith (Federal Way, Wash.) ignited the Tigers in the second half, scoring 24 of his career-high 26 points in the final 20 minutes. The Tigers fought their way back into the game with a 14-2 run capped by a three-pointer from Smith to cut the Titans' lead to 43-41 with 14:51 to play in the game. A free throw by Smith cut the margin to one point (48-47), but a three-pointer from the CSUF's Devon Peltier and a basket by Andre Hardy gave Cal State Fullerton a 53-47 lead with 12:52 left in regulation. The Titan lead fluctuated over the next eight minutes as they had an answer for each Pacific run, then pushed it to an 11-point advantage (77-66) with 4:14 remaining after a 6-0 run. Pacific made a final push, as Smith capped a 9-3 run with a three-pointer at the 1:48 mark to make it 80-75. The Titans broke the Tigers press and scored on a layup from Jer'Vaughn Johnson, to make it a seven point game again. Another three-pointer from Smith and a pair of free throws from senior Demetrece Young (Oklahoma City, Okla.) brought the Tigers within two (82-80). A defensive hold led to one last chance for the Tigers, but Smith's final trey attempt was just off the mark as the Titans snuck away with the victory. Smith finished with his first career double-double, adding 10 rebounds to his career-high 26 points. Huddleston added 18 points and Young posted 12 points and five assists. Pacific's leading scorer Willard fouled out in a season-low 13 minutes, including just four minutes in the second half. Peltier had 23 points to lead CSUF. Cal State Fullerton hit a season-high 11 three-pointers in only 16 attempts (68.8 percent). Pacific nearly doubled their shooting percentage in the second half, hitting just 31.0 percent in the first half and 60.7 percent in the final frame. The Tigers had a season-best eight blocks, including a career-high six from senior Nyika Williams (Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines).

UC Irvine 97, Pacific 86 (2OT): The Tiger men's basketball team rallied from a 20-point first half deficit to force overtime, but dropped a 97-86 double overtime decision at UC Irvine on Saturday, Feb. 26. The Tigers dropped to 16-12 on the year and 8-6 in Big West Conference play. The Anteaters improved to 13-17 and 6-9 in league play. Pacific took an early 7-2 lead behind five points from senior Sam Willard (Pierre, S.D.). UC Irvine came right back with a 13-2 run to take a 15-9 lead with 12:58 left in the half. A free throw from sophomore Allen Huddleston (Merced, Calif.) cut the lead back to 16-15 with 9:54 to play, but a four minute scoreless stretch by the Tigers ended up turning into a 14-0 Anteater run to give UCI a 36-19 lead with 3:16 to play. The Anteaters took a 20 point lead (42-22) after a Mike Wilder three-pointer with 1:43 left, but the Tigers scored the final seven points of the half to make it 42-29 at the break. Senior Terrell Smith (Federal Way, Wash.) scored six points in the final 1:05, leading the team with 12 points in the first half. After the Anteaters built the lead back up to 17 in the opening minute of the second half, junior Jose Rivera (Brentwood, Calif.) hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to 46-35 with 17:11 remaining. UCI took the lead back to 17 (52-35), but the Tigers continued to whittle away, chopping it down to 54-43 after an 8-2 run featuring three-pointers from Smith and senior Demetrece Young (Oklahoma City, Okla.). A three-pointer from Wilder made it 57-43, then the Tigers made another push with an 11-0 run to make it 57-54 at the 9:08 mark. Young and junior Chuck Coley (Palm Beach, Fla.) each scored five points in the stretch. UCI hit seven of their next eight free throws as the Anteaters built the lead back to eight (67-59) with 4:36 to play. With the Anteaters leading 71-65, Smith hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to even it up at 71-71 with :58 remaining. Daman Starring hit two free throws with :25 seconds left to give the Anteaters a two point lead (73-71). A turnover by Young and two more free throws made it a 75-71 UCI lead with :14 to go, but Young hit a three-pointer to cut it to 75-74 and four seconds remaining. Patrick Rembert hit a pair of free throws to make it 77-74, forcing the Tigers to go the length of the court in :04. Chuck Coley threw a pass to mid-court, finding Smith who passed to Huddleston. Huddleston was fouled attempting a game-tying three-pointer and hit all three shots to send the game to overtime. In the overtime period, the Tigers took a 79-77 lead with 2:45 remaining after a pair of free throws from Huddleston for their first lead since the 14:21 mark of the first half. Baskets by Darren Moore and Eric Wise and free throw from Patrick Rembert made it 82-79 in favor of UC Irvine with :37 left. The Tigers ran the clock down and a three-pointer from Huddleston knotted it up at 82-82 with :04 left. Rembert's long three attempt was no good at the buzzer, setting up a second overtime period. Huddleston's last second three-pointer was Pacific's only field in both overtime periods as the team was 1-16 from the field in the extra time. Moore had a three-point play with 4:11 to start the second overtime. Willard hit a pair of free throws to cut it to 85-84, but the Tigers wouldn't score again until the :30 mark of the contest as UC Irvine used an 11-0 run to take control with a 96-84 lead at the :40 mark. Smith had a career-high 23 points to lead five Tigers in double figures. Young scored 16 points, all after halftime. Huddleston had 13 points on 10 of 11 free throw shooting. Rivera had 12 points from four three-pointers, while Willard collected his 17th double-double of the year with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

WILLARD NAMED BIG WEST CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND WEEK IN A ROW (Nov. 22): Pacific senior Sam Willard (Pierre, S.D.) was selected as Big West Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday, Nov. 22. It is the third time that Willard has won the award. He also earned the honor in the final week of the 2009-10 season and last week. Sam averaged a double-double last week (17.0 points and 13.7 rebounds per game) and hit all 16 free throw attempts. He has six consecutive double-doubles dating back to last year.

WILLARD NAMED BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR OUTSTANDING SEASON DEBUT (Nov. 15): Pacific senior Sam Willard (Pierre, S.D.) was selected as Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday, Nov. 15. It is the second time that Willard has won the award. He also earned the honor in the final week of the 2009-10 season. Sam equaled his career high with 23 points at UTEP in Pacific's season-opening win. It was his third consecutive double-double going back to last year. He had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the second half, as he ignited the Tigers' second half comeback. The Tigers trailed 36-25 at the break but went on a 15-2 run to open the second half, with Willard pitching in seven points in the stretch. He also equaled career bests with two three-pointers and 38 minutes.

TIGERS SWEEP RIVALS.COM BIG WEST DECADE AWARDS: The Pacific men's basketball team was honored by Rivals.com, as it was a sweep for the Tigers in the three awards for the Big West Conference for the 2000's. The program was honored with Team, Player and Coach of the Decade.

PLAYER OF THE DECADE: Pacific F Christian Maraker, 2001-06. Maraker, from Sweden, was a three-time first-team all-league performer and was the Big West player of the year in `06. He redshirted as a freshman, then started for four years. He helped the Tigers to three consecutive Big West titles and three consecutive NCAA appearances. Maraker finished his career averaging 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds. He shot 48.8 percent from the floor and 79.7 percent from the line.

COACH OF THE DECADE: Pacific's Bob Thomason. Thomason guided the Tigers to seven 20-win seasons and three NCAA appearances during the decade. He also won league coach of the year honors three times. Pacific set a school record for wins in 2004-05 with 27.

TEAM OF THE DECADE: Pacific, 2004-05. The Tigers dominated league competition, going 18-0 in conference play and winning the regular-season title by five games. They were seeded eighth in the NCAA tournament, receiving an at-large bid after they lost in the league tourney final (that loss snapped a 22-game winning streak). Pacific beat Pittsburgh in the first round of the NCAA tournament before falling to top-seeded Washington in the second round. The Tigers finished 27-4.

TIGERS SIGN THREE FOR 2011-12: University of the Pacific Head Men's Basketball Coach Bob Thomason has announced the signing of three student-athletes to letters of intent. Adam Eakels, Ross Rivera and Tim Thomas will enter Pacific for the 2011-12 season. Eakles is a 6-8 forward and will join the Tigers as a sophomore. He is a skilled post who can play both post positions. He redshirted his first year of college at Seattle University before transferring to Fullerton College in Fullerton, Calif. Adam is currently averaging 15.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game for the Hornets after the first two games of the 2010-11 season. He is from Woodland, Calif. and attended Woodland High School. Adam led Woodland HS to the Tri-County Conference playoffs in his junior and senior seasons, and was named Team MVP in each year. Helping his team to a 21-8 record in 2008-09, he led the league with 17 points per game, and also had 163 rebounds and 48 blocked shots. "Adam is a very versatile player," said Thomason. "He will be able to play both forward positions. Adam will bring good perimeter shooting and strong rebounding to the Tigers."' Rivera is a 6-7 forward from College of the Sequoias in Visalia, Calif. He grey-shirted last season, improving his game and his body. He is averaging 18.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in three games this season. A threat from the outside, Rivera has already knocked down six three-pointers this year. He was just named Most Valuable Player at the Cuesta College Tournament, after leading College of the Sequoias to the tournament title. Ross attended El Diamante High School in his hometown of Visalia, Calif. In his senior year, he averaged 21.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He earned All-West Yosemite League honors in 2009 from MaxPreps.com. He will enter Pacific as a sophomore. "Ross is a very skilled post player," said Thomason. "He is a very smart player with excellent court sense. We are very excited in what he will bring to our program." Thomas is a 6-10 sophomore center from Las Positas College in Livermore, Calif. He is a big, strong post with good skill and will bring a physical presence to the Tigers next season. Last year he averaged 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Hawks. Through three games of this season, Tim is averaging 9.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He prepped at Sheridan High School in his hometown of Sheridan, Wyo. "I love the size and skill that Tim will bring to us next season," said Thomason. "He is big and strong, and should be able to protect the paint on defense."
