Five Tigers Earn All-Academic Honors From The WCC

San Bruno, Calif. - With the end of the year awards finalizing from the conference office, five Tigers were named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team for the 2014 season. Seniors Erik Lockwood and Kyle Crawford along with junior Taylor Murphy led the way with first team selections while sophomore Gio Brusa and J.P. Yakel each earned honorable mention honors. Both Lockwood and Crawford earned similar awards from the Big West last season for their work in the classroom.

To earn the distinction as a member of the academic all-conference team a player must own a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average while being a significant contributor to her team. The all-academic team is selected at the end of the the playing season and consists of a complete 25-man roster on the first team.

Lockwood, the Tigers' captain in 2014, earned his bachelors degree in business administration this season after posting a 3.49 GPA. On the field, Lockwood finished the year hitting .287 while posting 31 RBI and playing gold-glove level defense at first base. 

Joining Lockwood on the all-academic team was his fellow senior, Craford, who proved to be the Tigers' most reliable pitcher out of the pen in his final season at Pacific. Mirroring Lockwood, Crawford earned his bachelors in business at the completion of the year while also posting an impressive 3.49 GPA. On the mound, Crawford finished the season with a minuscule 1.72 ERA while appearing in a team-high 26 contests on the year.

Outside of the two seniors, Murphy earned his first academic award after posting a 3.25 GPA in business administration in his third year at Pacific. On the field, Murphy was the Tigers' best player down the stretch as he ended the year hitting batting .315 with 34 RBI and 35 runs scored. He hit a team-best five home runs and six triples while posting 20 extra-base hits in 2014.

Outside of the three Tigers on the first team, Brusa and Yakel earned honorable mention honors for their work both on and off the court. For the two, the honorable mention honor marked the first academic award for each sophomore in their first years of eligibility.
