In his first season with the Tigers, Johnston started 50 games and made three appearances off the bench as a third-baseman, outfielder and DH. Led the Tigers in home runs with four (tied for sixth in Big West). His 15 doubles was sixth in the Big West, while his 27 runs batted in was fourth on the team. His 15 stolen bases (in 18 attempts) was tied for the team lead, and good for fifth in the Big West. Turned in 10 multi-hit games, including four games with three-hits and a 4-for-4 night against UC Davis on May 6. Turned in an 11-game hitting streak from March 8 to April 1. Went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against Kansas State on Feb. 20. Added a 3-for-5 day against Gonzaga on March 5 with two doubles and his lone triple of the season. Went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer against Western Kentucky on Feb. 27. Added a homer as part of a 2-for-4 day with three RBI against No. 17 UC Irvine on April 17. Posted three hits in six at bats with two runs batted in and a home run against Cal State Northridge on April 23, with a pair of stolen bases.
Prior To Pacific (Canada College):
Posted a .336 average in 2010 with five home runs, 32 RBI and 17 doubles. Racked up 86 total bases and a .577 slugging percentage and wwiped 21 bases on 26 attempts as the Bears posted a 30-5 record... In 2009, led Canada with a .400 batting average (68-for-170), with eight homers, 14 doubles and four triples. Slugged .671 with 114 total bases and 55 runs batted in... Also led the team in average, slugging, runs scored (43), hits (68), RBI, triples, home runs. Finished 17th in the California Community College Athletic Association (89 teams) in hits and ranked sixth in RBI as Canada went 29-12 and finished second in the Pacific Division.
A three-year letter-winner at Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, Calif., Johnston was named All-Peninsula Athletic League, All-County and MVP of coach Mike Amoroso’s Bears... Finished his career in 2007 as the school’s all-time leader in runs batted in and fifth all-time in home runs.
