Boys of Summer: Nine Tigers In Summer Ball

Nine members of the Pacific baseball team are currently playing summer ball across the country, from North Carolina, Minnesota, California to Hawai'i.

Junior centerfielder Brett Christopher (Livermore, Calif.) is patrolling the outfield fo the Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plains League in North Carolina. In eight games, Christopher is hitting .296 with a double, a triple, and seven runs batted in. He is six-for-six in stolen base opportunities.

Sophomore LHP/1B John Haberman (Stockton, Calif.) is hitting .300 for the Willmar Stingers in the Northwoods League in Minnesota. He has three doubles, and four runs batted in through 50 at bats. On the mound, Haberman has allowed just two hits in 5.2 innings pitched without allowing a run. He's struck out six against two walks in two appearances.

Freshman catcher Jason Taasaas (Elk Grove, Calif.) is catching for the Marysville Gold Sox in the Horizon Air Summer Series in Northern California. He's started five games behind the plate and has four hits, including a double and two RBI.

Also in the Horizon Air Summer Series, freshman LHP/1B Erik Lockwood (Broomfield, Colo.), and freshman LHP Andrew Wild (Visalia, Calif.) are teammates on the Redding Colt .45s. In three appearances on the mound, Wild has a 1-0 record and one save with a 2.16 ERA. He's struck out 10 in 8.1 innings of work against three walks.

Lockwood, who redshirted for the Tigers in 2011 after being limited to three games due to injury. In 10 games, Lockwood is hitting .406 with 13 hits in 32 at bats, with four doubles and seven RBI. He's also made four appearances on the mound with a 2.19 ERA and a 1-1 record in 12.1 innings pitched, striking out 13 against just two walks.

Freshmen LHP Kyle Crawford (Lodi, Calif.) and 3B/RHP Peter Miller (Santa Cruz, Calif.) are teammates with the Humbolt Crabs of the Far West League. Crawford owns a 1.69 ERA and 2-0 record in four appearances on the mound. He's holding opponents to a .169 average in 16 innings of work on the hill, including a pair of starts.

Miller has appeared in eight games, all on offense, with four hits, four runs scored, a double and three runs batted in.

In the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League, freshman OF Brian Essig (Salt Lake City, Utah) has appeared in three of six games for the Kauai Menehunes, picking up a single in eight at bats. He's also walked three times for a .364 on base percentage and has swiped a pair of bases in two attempts. Freshman INF/UT Riley Drongesen (Granite Bay, Calif.) has played in three games for the Oahu Paddlers, posting a pair of hits in 10 trips to the plate. He also has three walks for a .385 on base percentage.
