Stockton, Calif. - Athletic Director Ted Leland has renewed his contract at University of the Pacific for two years, President Pamela A. Eibeck announced today. Leland will continue his work as the head of the Pacific Athletic department, a post he has held since 2011 after returning home to Stockton in 2006 following a career as athletic director at Stanford University.
"Ted has demonstrated his deep commitment to both academic and athletic excellence and integrity," said Eibeck. "His track record of distinction speaks for itself, and I am delighted he will remain at the helm of Tiger athletics."
Since taking over as Pacific’s director of athletics, Leland immediately reinvigorated the Athletics annual giving operation as he transformed the Pacific Tigers Athletics Association into the Pacific Athletic Foundation (PAF). In addition to retooling the Tigers’ fundraising, Leland’s crowning achievement was striking a deal to bring Pacific home to the West Coast Conference (WCC). The Tigers returned to the WCC in 2013 and have been at the forefront of the conference’s digital media push with the creation of the WCC’s own theW.tv.
With Leland at the helm, the Tigers have taken home four conference titles, while qualifying for postseason competition 12 times. Included in those performances was an outstanding run by Pacific Men’s Water Polo in 2013, which saw the Tigers ranked No. 1 and finish as the national runner-up.
"Serving the University of the Pacific as Athletic Director is truly an honor and privilege, and I look forward to continuing our important work over the next two-plus years," said Leland. "I want to thank President Eibeck for her encouragement and support, as well as the entire Tiger family."
