Stockton, Calif. – Sophomore softball player Rachel Sellers has been selected as the Tigers' Competitor of the Month for March. Only nine student-athletes earn the distinction every year in Pacific Athletics and Sellers is the seventh to garner the award during the 2015-16 academic year. The Competitor of the Month award is given each month to a Pacific athlete who demonstrates unusual or remarkable competitive effort, focus, and discipline.
Rachel, had a tremendous month on the field for the Tigers' softball team. She guided the team to a 9-5 record for March while leading the team in hitting (.441), slugging percentage (.794), on base percentage (.513), hits, doubles, and total bases. She was named the WCC Player of the Week for the week to begin the month after finishing the opening weekend of March hitting .875 with 13 total bases.
"Rachel is our starting catcher and is a 'warrior' behind the plate," said head coach Brian Kolze. "She has been a great leader from back there playing beat up, sore and tired. She is also doing something that most catchers don't do at our level; she is calling the pitches in the game. This obviously has added pressure that usually falls on the coaches but she has flourished with this responsibility of calling the game for four different pitchers."
