Stockton, Calif. – RS-Freshman swimmer Yahav Shahaff has been selected as the Tigers' Competitor of the Month for February. Only nine student-athletes earn the distinction every year in Pacific Athletics and Shahaff is the sixth to garner the award during the 2015-16 academic year. The Competitor of the Month award is given each month to a Pacific athlete who demonstrates unusual or remarkable competitive effort, focus, and discipline.
Yahav was a dominant force at the MPSF Conference Swimming Championships in February held at East LA College, winning two events and breaking seven school records.
Yahav won the 100-yard breaststroke in a new school record time of 52.97, breaking the previous mark by over 1.3 seconds. In the 200 breaststroke Yahav placed 2nd on his way to setting another new school record, touching the wall in a time of 1:58.54. In the 50 freestyle, Yahav placed 2nd with a time of 19.98, making him only the second Tiger in school history to break the coveted 20-second barrier, behind only double Olympic gold medalist Brad Schumacher who did so in the mid-1990’s.
Yahav was irreplaceable on four Tiger relays where he and his teammates earned a victory in the 400 Medley Relay and three 2nd place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay. All four of those relay swims resulted in new school records by a combined margin of over 10 seconds.
