Oct. 16, 2009
Stockton, Calif. - University of the Pacific Director of Athletics Lynn King announced today that Jim Dugoni is returning to Pacific Athletics as Associate Director of Athletics for Development, with primary responsibilities for major gifts fundraising as well as securing annual contributions to individual sport programs and through the Pacific Tigers Athletics Association (PTAA). A 1986 Pacific alum and 14-year employee of the University, Dugoni moved across campus in 2006 after 10 years with Pacific Athletics to take the position of Director of Annual Giving with Pacific's Division of Institutional Advancement. He will return to the Athletic Department on October 19th.
"We are very pleased to have Jim return to Pacific Athletics," said King. "He is a talented and trusted colleague who brings knowledge and expertise to this new position. I enjoy working with Jim and look forward to our future."
"I am thrilled about returning to Pacific Athletics after spending three years growing the Pacific Fund for the University," said Dugoni. "This is a great opportunity for me to work closely again with Lynn King and the coaches, and to continue my strong association with VP Ted Leland, as we all strive to dramatically increase the resources for Pacific's intercollegiate athletics program."
In the last three years, Dugoni has led the entire annual gift fundraising operation for the University as Director of the Pacific Fund, improving unrestricted giving from $673,763 in 2007 to $939,785 in 2009 and increasing the number of donors by nearly 700. He was also instrumental in taking the number of unrestricted leadership gifts at $5,000 per year or higher from eight in 2007 to 51 in 2009. Dugoni was able to cultivate and solicit the financial support of alumni, parents, students, staff and friends of the University through face-to-face meetings, direct mail, telemarketing, volunteer engagement, and reunion class giving.
Dugoni was originally hired at Pacific in 1996 as Ticket Manager and Associate Director of Marketing and Events. He was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs in 1998 and took on the additional role of Executive Director of the Pacific Tigers Athletics Association (PTAA) in December 1999. Dugoni's primary responsibility was to orchestrate annual fundraising activities for the PTAA with the help of more than 30 volunteer fund drive workers. Other duties included coordinating PTAA hospitalities, booster trips, and special events such as the Orange & Black Ball. He also provided oversight for marketing and promotions activities and served as the liaison with the Collegiate Licensing Company for all of Pacific's trademarks and word marks.
A 1986 Pacific graduate with a degree in business administration, Dugoni gained six years of experience in professional sports as a Regional Ticket Manager for the San Francisco Giants and as Director of Marketing and Sales for the San Jose Golddiggers of Major League Volleyball. He earned a master's degree in sport management from the United States Sports Academy in 1990, before receiving a master's degree in higher education administration from Stanford University in 1993.
Dugoni spent a total of four years at Stanford, first serving as Group Ticket Sales Coordinator for football and basketball before joining the major gifts staff for Stanford's Office of Development. In 1995, he was named Associate Director of the National Resources Program, which identified over 4,000 new major gift prospects for Stanford.
