April 8, 2009

Irvine, Calif. - The Big West Conference announced that 92 student-athletes from nine member institutions earned Academic All-Big West honors while participating in winter sports of men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's swimming and diving.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

Seniors Bryan LeDuc (Corona, Calif.) and Chad Troyer (Seattle, Wash.) represented the Tigers for men's basketball. The award was the second for Troyer after earning the honor in his first year of eligibility last season.

Women's basketball was represented on the team by redshirt freshman Andrea Swanson (Littleton, Colo.). Swanson earned the award in her first year of eligibility.

Men's swimming took home the honor of having the most winter athletes garner the academic award among Pacific's four sports after placing seven swimmers on the team. Seniors Justin Canty (El Cajon, Calif.), Matt Lundy (Lafayette, Colo.), Dave Platow (Westport, Conn.) and Stephen Quinn (Livermore, Calif.) were joined on the academic team by juniors Kyle Accornero (Livermore, Calif.), Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljublijana, Slovenia) and Danny Platow (Westport, Conn.).

Rounding out Pacific's academic honorees was a pair of swimmers from the women's swimming team. Senior Jenny Lewis (Hesperia, Calif.) earned her second straight academic all-conference award while junior Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) was named to the team for the first time.
